Patti Engineering Invited to Share PROFINET Expertise at ARC Advisory Group’s 18th annual Industry Forum 2014

The ARC Advisory Group’s 18th annual Industry Forum 2014, “Industry in Transition: The Information Driven Enterprise”, is in progress this week in Orlando, Florida. At this event industry executives come together to collaborate, share ideas, and find new ways to address and minimize their most pressing problems. Important challenges all companies face – the need to reduce costs, reduce risk, increase efficiency, and reduce energy use – are the topics of conversation.

New information technologies – cloud computing, mobility, social technologies, and 3D visualization to name a few – have been receiving considerable attention in the industrial community as each has the potential to disrupt and radically change the way companies do business. However, a great number of industrial enterprises tend to be conservative and slow to embrace new information technologies. With this in mind the ARC Advisory Group’s agenda for this year’s forum continues to explore what works and highlights the successes of leading organizations for the benefit of all.

Technology from automation and business systems to product and asset lifecycle management, supply chain management, logistics, operations management, controls and control elements are being covered at this week’s event.  Sam Hoff, executive vice president of Patti Engineering, will be participating in a panel discussion taking place this morning on PROFINET.

Information starts as data in plant floor devices, from there, Industrial Ethernet conveys data to controllers, then to HMIs, then to enterprise systems.  The critical role played by the Industrial Ethernet network infrastructure is the focus of the session on PROFINET.  Siemens, GE Intelligent Platforms, and Phoenix Contact will show how PROFINET feeds the information driven enterprise in their environments.  Three end-users will provide tangible examples supporting PROFINET benefits including production flexibility, increased uptime through timely diagnostics, functional safety, and more.

The session will continue with a panel discussion featuring system integrators, OEMs, and academics discussing “Network Infrastructure: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.”  The benefits of Industrial Ethernet such as, high bandwidth, unlimited address space, familiarity, future proof, and inherent diagnostics are well documented.  However, like any technology, there are less widely known ‘gotchas’.  Hoff was invited as one of the experts who can speak from extensive experience to describe the pitfalls and the tips and techniques to avoid them.
