Control systems integrator announces annual “Best Use of Automation Technology” Award and participation for the 2016 Future City Competition.

AUBURN HILLS, MI –  February 3, 2016 Patti Engineering, Inc., a leader in control systems integration, announced its sponsorship of the Michigan Regional Future City Competition for the sixth consecutive year.  Organized by the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD), the Michigan Regional Future City Competition promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.  Patti Engineering presented the “Best Use of Automation Technology” Award to St. John’s Lutheran School in Rochester, MI.  The team will attend the national Future City Competition in Washington, D.C. February 13-15.

A team of five Patti Engineering employees attended the ESD Michigan Regional Future City Competition on January 25 at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI.  Patti Engineering’s team participated as judges and presented the “Best Use of Automation Technology” award.

The theme for the 2016 Future City Competition was “Waste Not Want Not,” challenging students to tackle the problem of solid waste management.  Projects centered on designing “safe, environmentally sound, and energy efficient” citywide waste management system.  Each project included five components that encompass the full engineering process: a project plan, a virtual design with SimCity software, an essay explaining their project, a model of the city, and a presentation.  Each team consisted of at least three students, a teacher, and a volunteer mentor.

The St. John’s Lutheran School’s project was based on Mokattam Village in Manshiyat Nasir, a town near Cairo, Egypt.  They called the town Egabrag (garbage spelled backward).  The city presently has a lot of industrial waste processed there, and the team’s future city addressed those problems.  The team also placed first the overall competition, earning them a place in the national competition in Washington, D.C. February 13-15.  St. John’s Lutheran School is the defending national champion, and is looking to win its third straight championship!

“We appreciate the opportunity to continue to engage with the next generation of engineers,” said Sam Hoff, CEO of Patti Engineering. “We applaud St. John’s Lutheran School for their commitment to quality STEM education and wish them the best of luck at the national competition.”
