Patti Personnel Spotlight: Connie LeMarbe
Connie is a confident and enthusiastic member of the Patti Engineering controls team who loves problem solving.
Connie did not take the usual route to this career. Her love of STEM subjects made her initially consider a career in engineering when she was at Oakland University, but instead decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a secondary teaching certificate. She taught middle school and high school math before her path led her to Patti Engineering. Connie visited our Auburn Hills office in 2015, and was so impressed and intrigued by the company and its projects that she signed up for PLC programming classes and the rest is history!
"Although Connie joined the team without direct experience in the industry, her aptitude and interest were immediately apparent,” said Dave Foster, VP of Engineering and Operations. “She has picked everything up very quickly and really impressed our customers."
Since coming on board, Connie has worked on a variety of programs. She spent quite a bit of time at a large automotive customer where she worked with barcode scanners, matrix printers, robots and media blasting. On another large project, Connie programmed matrix printers and HMI screens.
Several smaller projects allowed her to travel outside of the Midwest where she completed interesting tasks such as programming paint booth robots. What Connie enjoys most about her job at Patti Engineering is the challenge of having to overcome obstacles on complex work projects. “I like the challenge of having to figure out a problem,” says Connie. “I also love the ability to use my math degree towards accomplishing a project.”
To that end outside of work, Connie and her father have two trebuchets that they tinker with in the backyard. Connie is also a member of the aptly-named trebuchet team, Masters of Mayhem.
Connie’s talents extend beyond the world of STEM. She played French horn through high school, and picked up the mellophone – which is similar to the French horn – in college. That gave her the opportunity to make her ESPN2 debut playing the Oakland University pep band at the 2010 NCAA tournament.
She has a beloved basset hound, Elly, who accompanies her on family camping trips. Elly also “assists” with crocheting while Connie makes Star Wars characters for her little cousin, Owen. Connie and her mother enjoy baking together, and often decorate fancy cakes for family occasions.
