Patti Spotlight: Ryan Goad
Ryan Goad has been an excellent addition to the Patti Engineering team in Texas. He has proven to be a quick study whose interest in electronics has enabled him to become rapidly proficient in many automation technologies.
“Ryan joined Patti Engineering after graduation from Texas Tech very eager to learn controls,” says StevePalmgren, VP of Texas Operations. “He has continued to impress us with his intense dedication and attention to detail in making sure his engineering solutions solve our customers’ problems.”
So far, Ryan has worked on six major projects using technologies including Siemens, Mitsubishi, VLC, and SQL.
“All of the projects that I have done were on a different platform, and this promotes continuous learning of new systems and programming languages,” said Ryan. “I feel that this has made me versatile on the software side of things.”
This diverse experience has included work for an automotive manufacturer installing Mitsubishi PLCs and drives in a windshield installation process. Ryan was also a key contributor to the sortation upgrade project for the Men’s Wearhouse. He has assisted with several other projects including replacing a variable frequency drive at a municipal water supply facility, and writing the communication protocol for the PLC which controls the temperature of the lubrication for an engine test system.
After becoming Siemens-certified for Industrial Networks - Routing and Switching, Ryan was recently called onto a major project for a heavy equipment manufacturer. The task was to integrate the production floor network into the corporate network. With over 100PLCs needing router installation, Ryan will know every machine on the plant floor inside and out by the time the project ends.
Ryan grew up in New Braunfels, Texas which is about 40 minutes south of Austin. He graduated from Texas Tech University in May of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and dual minors in electrical engineering and mathematics.
Ryan remains close to his family. His parents both work in the Texas public school system; his father is a high school football coach, and mother is a high school teacher. Ryan’s younger brother is following in his footsteps, studying mechanical engineering at Texas Tech.
When not at work, Ryan loves to hang out with family and friends, no matter what they end up doing together. His first choice for activities always relates to sports. Ryan is a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs, and also enjoys watching all levels of football from high school to the NFL to fantasy football. Ryan says he will watch or play almost anything competitive, and is especially fond of bowling (he even has his own bowling balls and shoes!), poker, darts, hiking and working out at the gym. Ryan’s non-sports-related hobbies are making Arduino-controlled electronic devices, and reading fantasy novels.
